Authentic French Bread

Ingredients:

1 C. water1 1/2 tsp. salt3 C. bread flour2 tsp. yeastcornmeal2 Tbsp. more water2 tsp. more yeast for Panasonic or National machines

Instructions:

Place all ingredients in bread pan, select dough setting, and press start. When dough has risen long enough, machine will beep. Turn off bread machine, remove pan, and turn out dough unto a floured countertop or cutting board. Makes: one 12-inch oblong loaf or 1 large round loaf or two 18 inch then baguettes or 8 French rolls. After shaping loaf, place on a cookie sheet that has a light sprinkle of corn meal. With a sharp knife cut diagonal slashes into dough. Brush with some beaten egg, or spray with water. Place in a warm place and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes.
