Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cocoa.
Add milk, vanilla and shortening; mix until smooth.
Add nut meats.
Pour into greased 8-inch square cake pan.
Mix brown sugar and cocoa; sprinkle over batter.
Pour hot water over entire batter.
Temperature–350 F. Time–45 minutes.
Amount–6 to 8 servings.
