Halloween Broomstick Cake

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp. butter5 apples1/2 C. butter1 egg, beaten2 1/2 C. flour1 tsp. cinnamon1/2 tsp. cloves1 C. water, hot3/4 C. brown sugar1/2 C. nuts, chopped1/2 C. sugar1 C. light molasses1 1/2 tsp. baking soda1 tsp. ginger1 tsp. salt

Instructions:

Coat 8x12x2-inch pan with 2 Tbls. butter. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over butter. Peel, core, and slice apples. Arrange the apples slices over sugar mixture. Sprinkle nuts over all. Place pan on bottom shelf of oven; let apples cook while mixing other ingredients Cream together butter and sugar, add egg and molasses; mix well. Sift dry ingredients; stir in to creamed mixture. Put in hot water and mix to thin batter. Remove pan from oven; pour batter over apples. Return to oven; bake 35 minutes. Remove from oven; loosen cake around edges. Let stand 5 minutes and turn out on to serving tray.
