Meatball Chili With Dumplings

1 pound ground beef3/4 cup finely chopped onion, divided1/4 cup dry bread crumbs or rolled oats1 egg5 teaspoons instant beef bouillon granules, divided3 teaspoons chili powder, divided3 tablespoons all purpose flour1 tablespoon cooking oil1 can (28 oz. size) tomatoes with liquid, cut up1 clove garlic, minced1/2 teaspoon ground cumin1 can (15 1/2 oz. size) kidney beans, drainedCornmeal Dumplings:1 1/2 cup biscuit baking mix1/2 cup yellow cornmeal2/3 cup milk


In large bowl, combine beef, 1/4 c. onion, bread crumbs or oats, egg, 3 t. bouillon and 1 t. chili powder. Shape into 12 meatballs. Roll in flour.

Heat oil in skillet; brown meatballs; drain on paper towels.

In a large saucepan, combine tomatoes, garlic, cumin and remaining onion, bouillon and chili powder. Add meatballs. Cook, covered, on low heat for 1 hour. Add beans.

For dumplings, combine all ingredients. Drop by spoonfuls into chili; cook on low, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 to 12 minutes more.
